Tough to tell exactly without looking at the spindle, but those are nice little mills. Probably an 8520 or 8525. Depending on condition and location, they can go from <$1000 to $2000+, and they tend to sell fast if priced right.

Here's the Lathes.co.uk page on them: http://www.lathes.co.uk/clausing vertical/index.html

Nice, hadn't thought to look on http://www.lathes.co.uk
I got very excited when I saw it, but my response was a few hours after it was posted so Im guessing it was too late. It is offered at a fraction of what shred says the value would be.

I have a Clausing 8513. It looks like the 8520, but it has a Bridgeport M head instead of the Clausing head. I called Clausing once to see if I could buy new leadscrews (They had them but for an outrageous price). I asked about the M head and was told they built 'a bunch' of them for one specific customer that demanded the M head. I had always assumed mine was a cob job some previous owner had done.

I eventually made new leadscrews for it, bought stock screw from Weedin in Michigan.

I got a great deal when I bought mine, $600, but that was at least 15 years ago.

They are excellent small mills and if you can buy one even up to $1500 or so they are worth it.

Call him again and offer $100. more then he is asking should still be a good buy.

Well, I missed it  Not that I was surprised, it was listed at $500. I got a reply from a guy and his signature did have in it President of Pennco Tool, http://www.penncotool.com/
Wonder why it was listed so cheap?

There's one on thebay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270524393032&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Thats very interesting- ebay has a photo of the nametag and it says 8512. I wonder what the difference is with the 8513,and how many more special models there are?

I looked closer at the photos- this one has only a one speed crank on the X axis, on the left end. Mine has the 2 speed gearbox on the right end.

Mine also has a different table, mine has coolant grooves along the sides.

I guess Clausing made a lot of options.

I've been trying to chase one down for a while now. There were two 8520 recently listed by the same person on CL here recently. They only wanted 3750USD EACH.
