I've been having a bit of a sort out and came across these brass castings. They are 1and 3/8 inches across and the boss in the centre has a 3/16 hole right through with a cross hole for what I would imagine would be a fixing pin. The small rounded piece has cross hatching on so looks like some sort of tap with a pointer. The top three have had bits filed away.

Has anyone seen these before?

They look very much like the throttle or choke lever of the side of a carburator off anything from a truck to a lawnmower.

I just noticed that you are in the UK so here is the 'correct' spelling - carburettor

For those in the USA it's also spelled "carburetor". :big:

Sorry Stan....couldn't help myself. ;D

Let's just call it carbie and everyone can agree.

Or should that be carby...... ???

They are safety catches for wimple ratchets.

You should always add a warning that operating without the ratchet safety catch will warp your wimple. We're not all aware warped wimples won't work.

Yes, indeed. Many a nun has come undone due to a warped wimple.

Another reason they travel in pairs ??? ???

I don't 'ave a problem with 'em being in pairs, its when they start flying around all over the place ....

Thanks for that. I had no idea such things existed I'll call in at the local convent and see if the nuns there are in need of any.

Peter.
