Affordable/practical reamer set?

Hi all - new here but it looks like you guys have a great resource for smaller tooling and such. I find myself having to make close fit pin and bushings usually between 6mm - 25mm or about 1/4" - 1" or so.

Is there an affordable set or adjustable set that you guys use?

Even with the freight to Australia it was a good buy but when I got the invoice, I had been charged for VAT so next time I might check with them before paying.

In Australia we pay 10% GST (goods and services tax), even allowing for that we are so ripped off with tooling that probably comes from the same manufacturer in China. Buying tooling from the US is often spoilt by the freight costs. But there are a few exceptions,was cheaper to buy a set of 5C collet blocks, the square and hex type, and pay for postage from the US than buy them local, where exactly the same type as available here.

For example, ordered a part for the running board on my F250, part costs US$12, packaging fee US$60, freight US$50. Can't do anything about it as the part is not available over here.

Another example, ER20 collets over here are $28 each, but I can get a set of 13 collets from EBay via China for $78 freight free. Someone is making a huge profit.

Hare and Forbes do rip us off here, but they have the market cornered as they have bought most everybody out.

Other than really heavy stuff I buy all my tooling from either China direct or the US, and sometimes the UK.

When I was working in China,I bought reamers,endmills,tooler makers vise,HSS bits,small bearings for peanuts.A 8mm ID radial thrust bearing cost me S$1.00. From Arceuro-------S$12 plus S$12 for postage and they were Chinese made too.

The rip off in Singapore,Australia is very bad.

May be making a trip to South China 2013 to use up my free air tickets.

YStool on ebay is a handy supplier. I have bought ER32 collets from there and have a couple of small things on order at the moment. I am keeping my eye on a carbide face mill, 100mm sine bar and metric sine blocks which I will eventually order.

The collets and MT3 holder will set you back about AUD $75. The collets alone without the holder at Hare and Forbes are AUD $352. I have spent heaps there too because I drive within 100 metres of them every day on my home from work They have a pretty good buy on a live centre kit at the moment for $100.

Gus, Hare and Forbes in Brisbane is at Boundary Road, Coopers Plains which is about 20 minutes out of the city via Beaudesert Road. They have a very good web site so you can compile your shopping list before you get here. Pretty much everything they have is on the web site here:

Occasionally they have a sale where they mark everything down but if I am buying a more expensive item they seem happy to give me about 10% discount depending on their mood on the day. They had one in November but I think they will have one around our when our financial year ends in June. I bought a couple of things during their sale and big machines were being loaded up by the truckload.

All their machinery is on display on the floor which is pretty amazing really given their range. It is always nice to see stuff for real though.
