Despite not being up to making anything at this time, I am still looking to the future for when I am capable.

I picked up on Utube a very nice looking engine, and found out that it is the well known Myfordboy who produces some very good casting kits plus lots of good videos on Utube.

Anyway, you must go to his site to appreciate what he is doing.

So to cut a long story short, I bought the set of castings (plus a couple of extra specialised bits) for the Aeromotor from him, for the very small cost of £252, incl P&P..

To me, and I have used and still have lots of casting kits over the years, and the ones I received (I had to wait a couple of weeks while he made them) were a absolutely fantastic quality, and because he doesn't use straight aluminium but ZL12 zinc aluminium, they are nearly the weight of steel, and supposedly machine a lot better than ali.

So just one question.

Lone star engine works used to sell a casting kit for a hand water pump, but sold off it's claim to it, and it's site is non operational now.

Can anyone tell me where this casting set can now be obtained from?

You could try Doug of Minicastings as he bought the patterns for several of Maury's (Lone Star) engines about 18months ago but at present he is not producing all of them. Not sure who the last few engines Maury did went to could have been Doug.

I have been helping out a German guy who asked on here a while ago about a pump for his 1/3rd scale IHC Famous. He has now modeled some very nice pumps in 3D and printed them out to test the design. First part ha snow been machined as they will most likely not use castings

You should be able to find it on Smokstak He has also posted on a few other forums. There is also a build of your Aeromotor on there.

I have already picked up and replied to the Smokestak post, a really nice build.

I had a good look around the Minicasting site, but no sign of the pump castings, it seems to be more geared towards 'toy' steam engines and ancillaries.

There is a very small 'full sized' one on ebay that just might suffice, but it does look cosmetically challenged.

He is selling the original Aeromotor model plans that Myfordboy based his engine on but not the casting set yet.

That one in your link is a bit too fat, you want teh main vertiical body to be 25-30mm dia

Myfordboy's Aermotor is 1/2 size, while the one previously sold by lone star was 3/8. Myfordboy got his measurements from an original engine in Australia.

I have now been reliably informed that it is only the flywheel that is made from ZL12 zinc aluminium, to allow it to be heavy enough without putting a steel tyre on it, the rest of the castings are made from aluminium, but even so, they are the best I have seen and handled.

Its good to know about the quality of myfordboys castings, i was looking at his traction engine, and little stationary engine and thought theyl'd make a good little project.

I built his Essex engine for a collector with more ambition than talent
His castings machined like butter no blows holes and the the split lines were very tidy just needing a light clean up.
All in all other than some problems due to poor machining on the collectors part these castings were fantastic
Iv been looking at his stove top engine as a future build and have no concerns about the quality of his castings

But once that is over, SWMBO has said I have to go into my workshop ASAP, to get me from under her feet.

One thing I cannot do is hold my breathand now its cold I know about it
Keep positive and Im sure the big boss will get her wish
Would love to build something like the Aero but its beyond my simple kit so will enjoy youre trials and tribulations
