Hugh, welcome to the forum.

Good idea! I was wondering where to find material to make an adaptor plate for my chuck to mount on my rotary table!

And a face plate too!

Thanks.

Hugh

From reports on a few forums and some feedback from a mate who actually tried it, the barbell weights are incredibly hard when it comes to machine.

When I wanted a chuck backing plate, I got a 30 mm slice of 165mm diameter grey cast iron from:
http://www.georgeweston.com.au

It only cost about $30 for the slice and I got some brass while I was at it. I guess I was lucky enough to be within driving distance..... but it was nice to machine.

Thanks Hugh scored some gears from a microwave and the printers, even some decent motor drives as well if I win lotto and build a bigger shed I'd have a go at CNC too LOL.

Rod thats a great source pity its in QLD postage is becoming over the top.
Thanks for the waring re hardness also I can always give the sons the weights if to hard.

Oh we do have Endcon steel here who do off cuts of just about everything or ezy-metal.

A quick google for grey cast iron turned up two Sydney suppliers,

I wonder if they cut to order?
