I managed to get my weaver machined, assembled and running. I only put two exhaust ports on the cylinder and have them facing towards each side. seems to be working. I used the piston design that hides the gudgeon pin. If I might ask a few questions people could really help me by responding. 1) is it vital to case harden the cylinder interior before soldering on the intake boss? 2) should you soft solder or silver solder the intake boss to the cylinder? 3) my weaver runs at about 6000 rpm, but I dont have experience breaking in a new engine – right now the engine has run about 40 minutes total at lower rpms but I see that it stops on its own after about 2 minutes of continuous running (even when there is still fuel in the tank). Is this normal or did I misstep by not hardening the cylinder (which is made from 1018 steel). it seems to bog down and slow on its own and then just stop – see last 20 seconds of the video.
Any comments would be helpful. thanks!
