    School project 2012-2013

Hi, This is what 'my guys' made during this schoolyear. All movies were made during open door in our school GTI-Duffel, May 5 Drill press (10) units were made by 14-15 year old. All other projects were made by 16-17 year old pupils. They were all VERY proud...

Why not piston rings every time?

Stirling engines and vacuum engines(small ones) will not work well if piston rings are used. And I even think they will not work at all imo. If applied friction will stop these little engines. Chris

    learning cad

Hi guys, Don't know if this has been mentioned before. As in 2DCAD programs also in 3DCAD programs files easily can be exported to be sent to other 3D CAD users anywhere. STP or STEP format has to be used to export files. Almost all 3D CAD programs can open this type of files. No need to save...

DRO on mini-mill - anyone have these?

Hi, what about this DRO. I think it's a neat solution. http://www.caliper2pc.de/en_index.html Someone uses these. I'd like to buy a pair. Chris

    Stirling BAS (Jan Ridders)

Hi guys, One of our students(Mathieu) in GTI Duffel(Belgium) made this one. It's one of Jan Ridders' engines. Heated with a alcohol flame it runs as fast as 1070 rpm. We were a bit surprised it ran that fast. Using a candle the speed of this engine dropped to about 450 rpm. Just some...

    Stirling engine - Fan

Mbusha, This engine is of own design. In the past I had a few peeks at the internet. Looking at several concepts I figured it out how to make this kind of engine. One very important tip I got from two amateur builders in our local club (Dirk and Wim). This tip had all to do with the internal...

    Stirling engine - Fan

Ian, There is no air flow at all at this stage. I did not twist the blades yet. That's the next step we'll perform. Pupils of my classes are 15/16 years of age. Together we have lots of fun. To be clear on the matter, All parts are made by my pupils and I do all assembling work at home in my...

    Stirling engine - Fan

OK, not 100% done but at this stage it runs smoothly, some fine-tuning has to be done. Made by my pupils. This is it's actual maiderun. It is indeed rather noisy but that's because it is mounted on top of a metal box http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSVN_IsKdmQ

    Stirling engine build

Hi Mitch, For that power piston / cylinder good combination to be used in a stirling-engine are cast-iron, stainless steel together with bronze. I would not use aluminum for that power piston at all, it's way to soft, it will jam. Coefficient of expansion is a very important issue here...! Chris

    Stirling generator fan

Hopper, Why doubt, why would it not spin that fan around..? Chris

    Stirling engine build

Mitch, We still don't know what engine you're making. Why not make a scan of that page and post it here..? Chris

    Stirling 60

Hi, Some time ago I already tried to contact Mr Jonkman, to no avail. Indeed the set drawings is not complete. Lucky there are no important drawings missing in the pdf set Chris

    Stirling engine build

Mitch, Forget about polishing parts this very moment. Use every minute of your time to make the engine's parts. Concentrate on the parts needed to have your engine run. Next do the supporting parts and last use the time you have left to make your parts look nice and shiny. Every year again I...

Free plans for a larger, simpler, beam engine

Hey Brian, Could you convert this assembly to STEP or STP format. My CAD program failed to open your files. Thanks Chris

The way it used to be (and still is)

Maybe that little sequence is mounted reversely...;) Great movie btw, I copied the 'belt thing' in one of my projects this school year. Pupils do not understand at all this has ever existed. Chris

ok ...ok...I know...this is not correct because this is all drawn in Inventor, but I show it anyway...;) One of this years project, drawing not finished yet. Age of my guys building and drawing this project : 15 years old. To have an idea, height of the drill-press about 6" . This little...

    learning cad

I must disagree on this one John. I started my 'drawing career' learning AutoCAD 12 (2D) For me it was a never ending learning process..! . I was not busy drawing a part on my computer, no I was busy drawing lines on a screen. I got nuts drawing lines...! Until someone proposed to try Inventor...

    learning cad

Although I don't use it myself (I use Inventor) I'd pick Alibre to work with if I had to choose. A few people I know use it and they make stunning things with it. Nice work btw aonemarine..! Chris

    A Two Cylinder Steam Engine

Ian, Off topic .... Depending on how often you'll need 3D CAD software I would advice learning it. Once you master it you'll gain lots of time There are a few free version to be found out there. I must admit, for me making all these drawings for the projects I'm building is part of the fun...
