Modifications to my HF Band Saw

Very nicely done! UniStrut is so handy for applications like this. I have saved your pics for future reference. It looks like it would also be very easy to add a self-contained coolant system to your cart. Hopefully a bandsaw is the next addition to my shop. I am getting tired of cutting...

    Trust me...

I had raised the head about 10 inches above the chuck so getting dragged in under the wheel wasn't a concern. I have done it a hundred times before. Today was the last time though!

    Trust me...

there is NOT enough room to reach in between the stone and chuck while the surface grinder is running. I don't care how high you raise the spindle, turn the damn thing off. This is gonna' hurt like Hades tomorrow!! Luckily I just lost a patch of hide.

Where do I get brass nails ?

That is a great recycling tip!

It was bound to happen sooner or later.

I spent a total of about 8 hours on the gear / tapered roller bearing upgrade. Part of that was a total strip down of the lathe for a good cleaning and lube job. I had purchased the gear set from MicroMark, got it on sale with all the tools for $60 or so over a year ago. The bearings were about...

7x10 Mini Lathe Tail Stock Cam Lock Mod

Beautiful work and an excellent write-up!! Much more elegant than the cam lock job I did on mine. Looking forward to your other projects! ;D

    My knurler.

Thanks for the compliment Peter! And you are absolutely right about the scissor and clamp style knurling tools being better on smaller lathes. You can even clamp them in a vise and knurl material of limited length on a milling machine. ;)

    My knurler.

I made tapered pins out of drill rod. I don't plan to change the knurls anytime soon so the pins will work for now. If I need to later I can replace them with hardened shoulder bolts. I have a lovely piece of round stock just begging to be made into a knurled nut...when I find the time. ;D

    Shop Made Boring Head

Buy commercially made bars for such a nice shop made head? Bite your tongue!! Get some drill rod and make your own. Or at the very least make some up that take carbide inserts. ;D

    My knurler.

My knurls are the same size and are also from LMS. Bogs' threader is my next project as well. ;D

    Starting Mini-Lathe Mods

I like the new handle!! Added to my TD list.

    Face Mill

I use a homemade 1 1/2" 2 insert facemill on mine now and then and get good results in steel if I keep the cuts light, .020-.030 or so. For aluminum I use a homemade carbide insert flycutter and can get a nice finish, if I want a mirror finish I swap the carbide for HSS.

    My knurler.

Nothing unique or revolutionary but I built it and here it is. And the results with coarse wheels on 3/4" 360 brass.

    Interesting video on metal working

I don't really see the sad part. That is just life, and you adapt and move on with it. Seems like he adapted. Sucks pinching your fingers off though...that has always been my biggest fear, mangling a hand. :o

    flip up toolholder for screwcutting

Good on ya' man, nicely done! Making tooling is my favorite part of machine work. The flip up threader is my next project now that my collet chuck is finished.

    Absolutely chuffed to bits!

No video but here are a couple of pics of the final product. I added the 4 set screw holes and numbered them for easy reference. I also added 2 tommy bar holes. Ignore the mess behind the lathe...I'll get to it later. Oh, a little trick for indexing the part on the mill for drilling holes. I...

    HI

I don't even build engines but I still like hanging around here! :big: One of these days, when I finish all the mods and tooling I have in mind, I will build something that makes a putt-putt sound and has spinning shiny bits. ;D

    Craigs List Twlight Zone?

Worked ON the B52's or FOR the B52's? :big: Either way the price is nuts!

    Absolutely chuffed to bits!

I will get some better quality vid of the finished chuck in action tomorrow. It's 98* outside right now and I am staying in the AC!
