    Doug. Have you looked into making your cylinders from the solid using cast iron bar stock, if you can it could work out cheaper than castings, and your finished cylinders will be suitable for air and steam ready for your boiler. Mike

    Brian, I'm thinking that maybe heavier flywheels may help to keep the engine going and create more torque when it comes up against the timber. I'm no expert in the mechanics of flywheels and torque just my bit of practical thinking, and I want to see your edger whipping through those planks !! Mike1

    Split bushings

    Make the two halves soft solder the two halves together which will be your centre joint, machine and bore to size, melt the soldered joint and you have your split bush. ( With no saw gap ) Mike 1

    Nice engine, move the fuel tank so that the top of the tank is level with the carb fuel jet, it may help with the fuel starvation problem. Mike1

    School me on engine starters

    Model Marine, and RC Car engines are fitted with a pull recoil starter which acts on the engine crankshaft, I don't know if they could be adapted for your engines, probably may need a engine designed around the starter. Just a thought. Mike 1
