    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Maybe I need to rethink the tank thing. I see that I can buy smaller 5lb tanks. Looks like your torches are Sievert. Is this Sievert similar to the ones you have been using? https://www.amazon.com/Sievert-Industries-DS2944-Torch-Kit/dp/B00OTJ1I72 Another question, would this fit a standard US...

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Thanks Jason; but, I really don't want something I need to attach to a 20lb tank. Takes up too much space and heavy for me to lug around. I doubt I will every silver braze anything bigger than possibly a small steam boiler and attachments.

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Chazz, Jason says to look for spec of around 25000 btu. I could not find a spec on the Bernzomatic ones in the description provided in the Amazon links. Do you happen to know that info?

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

How do you like your Bernzomatic with the hose for silver brazing? Of course, the link you provided for the Worthington hose might be a good alternative if I were to get something like the Goss I linked above: https://www.gossonline.com/air-propane-equipment/hand-torches/trigger-torch I did...

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Well, I ordered the Harris 56%. https://www.amazon.com/Harris-Troy-Ounce-75310-5631/dp/B0713Y6V2F?tag=forumyield-20, and the Harris Stay-Silv white flux. I hope I got the right stuff. Still have to figure out the torch. I think I want a propane with hose that connects to a small 1lb tank. More...

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Thank you. Saved me from wasting my money. I did look online for the JTH7 with no luck. Other suggestions are very welcome

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

It appears that propane torch is the most popular opinion. I found this Goss torch at a local plumbing store. https://www.gossonline.com/air-propane-equipment/hand-torches/trigger-torch Anyone use one of these? Is this a good one insofar as for the intended purposes stated in this thread?

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Thank you for all the responses. Although I would love to have an oxy acetylene set-up, it is an expense I do not desire in light of the lack of use I will get from it. I will stick with what I have, and also get a Mapp (current version) torch. As for the silver solder, I have been looking for...

Thank you for all the responses. (Edit). What does the use of the Oxygen on my Bernzomatic, give me?

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

For all you silver solder experienced, what is a good torch , not terrible expensive, and silver solder to buy? I plan on using the silver solder for the crank to crankshaft connection on the Webster engine build. I do have an old Bernzomatic OX-2500 with small oxygen and propane tanks, and I...

Thanks Minh Thanh. Good to know if I decide to go with o-rings. I doubt I will; but, I like options.

    Webster Build Questions and Progress

I am, at this point, planning on a cast iron piston with no rings. While on the subject, is the viton o-ring sized such that I could go that route with the current bore of .8727 to .873"?

    Webster Build Questions and Progress

Thank you. The measurements are allowing for a slight taper smaller at TDC. As I stated in an earlier post, it is difficult to measure with a telescoping gage. In any event, per my measurements, the taper is gradual from about .873" at BDC to 8727" at TDC. I think this may be a good thing. I...

Finished the cylinder, at least I think so. Used 400 grit and 600 grit silicon carbide. Feels and looks very smooth. No mirror shine, but from what I understand, not required for the Webster (please correct me if wrong). Thanks to all that assisted me with my first lapping job. Could be done...

I might be a little dense in this regard. But, is the arrow pointing toward the chuck on the lathe?

    Webster Build Questions and Progress

Thanks Minh-thanh. So do you insert the BDC end of the cylinder onto the lap first toward the chuck?

    Webster Build Questions and Progress

Will not be receiving the silicon carbide till later this week. Made the cylinder lap very similar in design to the one in Adrians Model Aero Engines linked above and here (https://www.adriansmodelaeroengines.com/catalog/main.php?cat_id=178). Here is a photo (not the best photo). The lapping...

    Webster Build Questions and Progress

I saw your grits were 320, 600, and 1000. I was able to find and order 400 and 600 grit rock tumbler silicon carbide on Ebay. I would hope that the 400 is close enough to the 320 to suffice. However, I could not find 1000 grit. They did have 1200 grit from the same vendor. Would that be too big...

    Webster Build Questions and Progress

Well I have been looking for silicon carbide in 600-800 grit and have not found any at a suitable price with shipping. I did find a Zirconia Alumina combined with Aluminum Oxide in 600-800 grit. I am wondering if this is a suitable replacement for silicon carbide??
