    Motorized milling machine head

Drew, Thanks for the information. I'm considering the same mods. I need more accurate control over the Z. I have already searched for ball screws and stepper motors. I would appreciate following your project. Neil, Either way I think I will add struts to mine too. This head is heavy and taking...

How to mill an elyptical shape?

I asked Joe Pieczynski on YoyTube the same. He replied, but didn't have a solution. If it was a matter of setup we probably would known about it by now. Think we are looking at a hefty attachment.. I would like to make a beam for a steam beam engine. Rudy

    Closed Crankcase Hoglet

I assume you now put some oil in the crank case? The original design has no oiling and therefore not suitable for doing work, as it is stated in the drawings. I have the plans my selves and i'm considering building it. I have also been looking towards another crank case design. Rudy

    First Lathe questions

Mac, I thing you decided for the right machine. The smaller ones are very fine, but this size is more rigid. Mine sits on top of a flimsy bench and I have no problems. I fitted DRO to mine with ease, so if it is expensive, just put it on later. I have some of these (pic). Cheap and works fine...

    Reamer question

Shopgeezer, I also started to be curious if someone actually made some use of adjustable reamers. My first sett from India went in the bin, the second set from China is stil in the drawer, but I can't use them the same way as fixed reamers. My fixed reamers does seldom have the dimension I'm...

Eric, looking forward to follow this build. Very nice engine! Rudy

    Reamer question

The cheapest ones are crap. Bought another set that looks ok, but I can't get any accurate results with them. They grab, makes poor finish and uneven holes. These are ok for general mechanical work when you need a bigger hole. In fact, I have limited success with fixed reamers too. I like to...

    First Lathe questions

My 250x500 (10x20), 125mm chuck, holds down to 1.4mm. With my 4-jaw self centering chuck that I use the most, down to 3.4mm. Rudy

    Wyvern Engine Ignition

robbay, I'm in the process of making a ignition system. I haven't tried it fully yet, but if it works it will be something you may want. I found a high voltage kit with a coil on eBay and got some to test. I also made a driver for it. I'm doing electronic development for a living, so that's up...

    First Lathe questions

Mac, I believe you already have your sights on the right target. I got my first lathe a couple of years ago. A generic Chinese 10x20. Believe it is the same as Grizzly G0602 (apart from mine has a gear box). Bought directly from China without any brand tag it costs the half. Right out of the box...

    Farm Boy 651

Glade you like it. After all, not many around the house understanding what we are doing and the effort we have to put into this hobby. I like this build. Think I have watched every FarmBoys out there. There is stil some work. I'll make a stand for it, and a tank (Even if I run it on propane). I...

    Farm Boy 651

Have been busy pleasing the wife refurbishing the living room. However, my Farm Boy did it's first puffs. Didn't get hold on any fuel, so I just placed a butane torch in front of the mixer and let it sip some gas into it. Works just perfect! Not to recommend though. There will be some unburned...

    Finished my Farm Boy Engine

Sweet.. I have just started up my own Farm Boy #651. Have some ignition problems to sort out. Do you have a build thread on this? What kind of fuel are you using? Found it difficult to get hold on clean alcohol. Runs grate with a butane torch blowing some gas against the mixer. Rudy
