Don't get frustrated man.. it'll get better. I've been staring at my lathe for two days trying to get the spindle index pulse working...I can SEE it working, but my controller isn't DOING anything about it.

No! ...can you post a screenshot of the folder the mach1lic.dat file is in?

Your license file is called Mach1Lic.dat , and is in the folder with Mach3.exe?

    Why are some pics.....?

The giant bandwidth-hogging photos, ( like I post ) are hosted offsite, at places like photobucket, while the tiny little postage-stamp-sized thumbnails are direct attachments. ;D

    Scrap Yard Cutting Tools

I'm sure we could take up a collection to rescue him from those cutters... of course, we'd have to spread the embarrassment around amongst ourselves...

...and go through the drawing dividing all of the dimensions by 25.4, and writing them beside the metric measurements. It'll familiarize you with the drawing and how the parts fit together at the same time.

Cable tie 'em for now, until you have time to make a bracket that bolts to the tiny threaded holes on the back end of the stepper?

    CNC Sherline Lathe Project

I've done that drive swap at work, on the Haas mills. It's great for getting a job out the door in a pinch. Even better at home, where time is more valuable than money. ;D

Yes, your wiring is right for the Nema 23 motors. No, it doesn't matter which way the resistors are. Yes, I've thought about a giant stepper for a Sherline spindle motor, especially on the lathe... lots of bottom-end torque, exact speed control, and spindle indexing!

    CNC Sherline Lathe Project

Xylotex has also made a revision, and refuses service (not just warranty, but SERVICE) on older boards like mine. needless to say, I don't have much faith in the thing now. I've been helping my parents build a CNC router for woodwork, and when they got that Gecko 540 I was just plain speechless...

Truing up a block in the mill

Aaaaah! :o I see what you all are talking about. Man, that's scary. The worst part, I found these videos about 6 months ago, watched part of the first one, and recommended them to a beginner machinist... I hope he doesn't hurt himself... he'll blame ME for suggesting the videos, and claim I owe...

    movable vise

Very cool. Like Marv said, it looks like a giant plastic version of an engraver's vise. I've sawn a bowling ball in half, and drilled and tapped some holes in another ( no idea why, they were for a local bowling alley owner), but I've never made anything really useful out of one.

8 Reasons Engineers Should Spend Their Free Time In The Machine Shop

Another excellent article! Where'd you get that photo? It looks an awful lot like a shop full of VW crankcases being line-bored.
