    PatWankel Rotary Engine

EDM cutting leaves a porous hardened surface, if you propose to use an alloy steel this hardened surface will crack when bent. Do you have a miraculous post bend finishing process that will remove the cracks and produce the smooth non abrasive surface required for a long lasting oil and pressure...

    PatWankel Rotary Engine

I will have to try this new method of bending seals in my next engine, it sounds so easy to make flat strips and then just bend them. No more turning rings, then cutting them, then the heat treatment, this must be a winner.

May I ask, what was the OS PET .10 two stroke engine for. Were there two engines?

    Universal Joint

You don't need to harden filling buttons. Just make them 2 or 3 times thicker than the part you are filing and they will last just fine if you stop filling when you hit them, if they can spin on the centre pin and you file at right angles to the pin then they roll and don't ware anyway, both...

Deep Hole Drilling / Cannon Barrel

The extension to the reduced shank drill is a very practicle idea. I have often used it. The biggest problem is when the drill binds. This is often because swarf is trapped by the back end where there is no clearance. You can grind or machine clearance or just clear the chips away often.

    Quarter Scale Merlin V-12

I have used them both in a Bridgeport and a 1963 Colchester student tailstock and they start easily (with a slow start feed and normal care) I really like them. They do need coolant and make long thin stringy swarf, but if you back off the cutter often it is nor a problem, we use a 31mm...

    Quarter Scale Merlin V-12

We regularly use annular cutters to bulk remove metal . I have an adapter that fits into my tail stock taper that holds the cutter in a socket with a couple of grub screws. The only limitation is the max depth but often the job can be turned around and a 4 inch hole can be achieved. Much less...

Howell v-2 four stroke gas engine.

Gus Best of luck with the starting. I really like the clamps on your plug leads as well as your box. The engine is the best part though. Buchanan from Moss Vale.

    Rotary table

I have used many RT's over the years. From home built to repairing thrown out, to new. one thing I would not be with out is my Divisionmaster. It takes out at least half the stress in cutting gears. Vertex are a good economy RT and very respectably accurate. Divisionmaster is also very easy...

    Bluing steel part.

Nick. I am asking from the clock makers point of view. If gun blue gives oil retention and harder wear and I can obtain the color I am looking for, then I want to use it on clocks. Clock oxide blue would not work on guns as you say. Thjanks. Buchanan

    Bluing steel part.

Nick Can one obtain an electric blue or fairly light blue with Gun blue? Most Gun Blue that I have used over the years gives more of a black blue. also the blue that I am looking for must be very even, not mottled at all. any comments would be appreciated. Buchanan

    Bluing steel part.

Pertha. yes, I mostly do just that, hang parts (clock) on a thin wire in an oven, The temperatures are obtainable in most cooking devises. Pigi's color chart back a few posts is correct. Screws , I use a block of brass with clearance holes for the thread and heat from below with a small butane...

    shop floor material

We have hard plastic floor tile with a checker pattern type finish. The tiles are good but the emboss pattern makes sweeping difficult. a smooth finish is important I think.
