Another insulator material that I have been using for the last year or two is pultruded fiberglass epoxy rod. It is in common use as the shaft for bicycle safety flags so is easy to find. If you or a friend has an axel mount safety flag you can even pull it out of the stamped mount and saw off...
There are a lot of active scratch builders in the US building live steam in Gauge 1 -- 45mm/1-3/4 track and many parts are available in various scales. There are some 1:32 scale done, but it is used more by the elecvtric modelers. More popular are 1:20.6 and 1:13.7 scales which are used to...
If the remaining Vee block is a little bit longer than the height of your milling vice jaws, cut it off so it matches the vice jaws and you will have a very handy tool for milling work on the end of short round stock.. t may recu e the pain a little bit.

Your "Tiny" is an excellent tribute to Arv's memory. In addition to our banter here on HMEM, Arv and I exchanged many emails and I considered him a friend and mentor. He is missed. I knew he had passed, but had never seen his obit. Thanks for posting the link to it.
I used to keep count of the...
Welcome to the "Tiny" club. Great workman ship and a nice runner. I will be following your new thread to see what variations and innovations you have incorperated in your "Tiny".

Byron,
RE: your kitty saga.
About 25 years ago I was manufacturing fully machined ready to assemble steam engine kits that had about 4 dozen 0-80 and 2-56 screws. One day I received a brief note from a customer that told it all in four short lines.
"Dining room table"
"Shag carpet"
"Large cat."...
I don't have the Shars tool post but have another brand of the same dimensions as the AXA. I do have about half a dozen of the Shars tool holders that fit it and they have been giving me good service for many years. The quality is good. I would expect the same to be true of the tool post.
Gail
Bernd,
Checked out your web site. Very nice.
I have been combining model railroading with engine building for the last doden years, but in gauge 1 sizes. 10 IC powered locos and pile of live steam.
I see that you like to use ball bearings in your projects and mention a supplier that has great...
Davy,
I am tied up all day today, but will post a sketch either late this evening or tomarrow morning. I checked, but my original drawing is long gone. Do you have CAD that can open a DWG or DXF file or Autocad Trueview?
Gail
I built one about 20 years ago and made my own needle valve assembly. Made it to look about like the Spitfire assembly as I recall. I just looked at mine and it looks about right. Nothing too critical about it.
The engine took a high nitro content fuel to run, but then ran OK. However I live at...
I think you would be OK with temperature. Consider that the fuel tank on TINY is bolted directly onto the frame with only a gasket insulating them. As the lighter distillates of gasoline starts boiling at about 100 degrees F (38 degrees C) the fuel tank temperature cannot rise too mulchl abouve...
Bluejets,
DLP stands for "digital light processing". The process prints a part in 3D by exposing a resin that hardens when exposed to ultra violet light one layer at a time. The problem was that the number of resins available that can be hardened with the UV light are limited and the...
Pete,
Thanks for your comments and observations. Since I have lived in the high desert for the last 60 years I tend to forget that there are places in this world were there is moisture in the air. Here our problem is that many plastics dry out and become brittle. Standard practice for the radio...
Thanks for the responses.
The Scotch Cast resins have great properties but none of the series are able to be processed with DLP printers.
Ray -- The first PDF you attached has a LOT of great and useful information. It gives me all the baseline information that I was looking for. The sample...
Don,
Thanks for the reply and link.
The article you linked to appears to have about the same information that I already have. I checked the shed and I think I have almost everything to build up the simple HIPOT tester so it will go on the to-do list. I have several other projects ahead of it...
