Decided to make a small boring head for my SIEG SU1 milling machine.

16mm straight shank; 30mm OD, from 7075 aluminum alloy. Slide block/ tool holder / gib strip from brass.

This project is underway, just some photos of progress so far...

The Boring Head will be very useful to bore bigger holes. You must have saved many many $$$$.
Made mine. So much satifaction that $$$$$ won't buy.
Please post foto of your maserpiece.

chuck it on the mill and turn OD; now looks a bit nicer ...

Would you say a nice ball turning attachment? Not my idea but one that I use

It also acts as a set over for taper turning

Hang on a bit! All that is needed is a change of toolbit or centre. Nothing more- you are there.
Two or is it three tools- for making one?

I like it!

Cheers

Here are some updates: revised/remade the sliding block; machined from 7075, circular profile instead of the original brass / cuboid design

Before making the feed screw, did a trial cut. Boring some 6061 scrap to 11mm ID; no chatter, so far so good...

It was so good to custom DIY your own BHead for almost 0 $$ and in return you get back $$$$ worth of pleasure and satisfaction.

Wow! The finished product is a fantastic looking piece. Would you be posting your design?

Wow that was a quick change of design. Was there an issue with the original that you didn't like? To me they both look good. Of course if you want to make the next one out of stainless I'd love to see that too! 😜😜😜😜

installed feed screw; supported by two ball bearings on the ends; spring-loaded nut to eliminate back-lash. It "feels" very precise ... almost done now ... so far so good ...
