Hello, I have drill press with a Westinghouse 115 v 311p319A 056 frame type FJ 3/4 hp motor that is spinning the wrong way. it has a simple off on switch and the original wiring cover was missing. I am trying to reverse the direction it is spinning, as i am looking at it underneath there is:
--upper left a spade terminal unlabeled with a black wire going into the windings
--(L1)upper right a post terminal with an attached spade terminal with the post going to an unknown black wire and the post terminal going to a black wire for the one way switch
--middle post terminal unlabeled with a blue wire black wire and green wire
-- (L2)lower post terminal with a yellow wire going to the motor, with attached 2 spade terminals with red wire going to motor and red wire going to switch. thanks

If you have a three phase motor, switching any two phase wires will reverse it.

how can i tell? there is a capacitor on the side, so i would switch l1 and l2? i assume the unlabeled middle post is N and the spade black is ground?

I tried reversing the spade leads from the switch to the motor and it still turns the same way i dont suppose reversing the lug leads will help as the get power from the same spade leads from the switch

I sent you a PM

PM recieved... I dont see any T# designated terminals, but i did find the middle stud has a 4 next to the spade part of the lug and the black wire from that goes to a switch that the other side of goes to the capacitor, and the spade for lug L2 is labeled 2 and goes to a small red wire that goes to the winding... i assume these are for the start winding, so are those what i need to switch?

Same reversing procedure works on the 1/3 hp FJ motor. This post and the solution (swapping red and black wires) got my old Atlas drill-press going in the right direction. Thanks .......... Buck Man

I had to reverse the wires on my shaper motor. It went well reading a 50 year old data plate and getting access to the wiring was the fun part.
glad you got it sorted out.
