At home many of us use scrap metal finds as a source of materials.
I received a note from a military buddy about the US Navy doing that
exact same thing but with a purpose in mind.

This ship was christened the Unit New York.

Her bow contains steel recovered from the wreckage of the World Trade Center
in New York City. On November 7, 2009 she will be commissioned the
USS New York (LPD21) in New York city.

I watched a segment on Discovery (or one of those like channels) that showed the foundry pouring pieces of the bow. Read an article saying how all the foundry and shipyard workers treated that steel with all the care & reverence it well deserved. It was an honor and privilege for them.
