Every now and again, when I'm typing something, wether it is a post or using MS Word, when I go back to make a change or correction, the new letters I type will eat the next letter in line. Is this just me hitting a wrong key, or a problem with MS word or .....? Sometimes I bump a wrong key, like Ctrl or Alt and it causes nasty results. I'm kind of leaning to Microsoft, as it used to happen a lot with my old machine, but does it once in a while with the new one.

Sounds like you may be inadvertently toggling the "Insert" key on and off.
If "Insert" is on, it will put the letter where the cursor is setting. If "Insert" is off, it will over write the next character after the spot where the cursor is setting.

You are not the first to have run into this kind of a problem, and it can come about just by hitting a wrong key, the "Insert" key.

Hope this helps, and happy Holidays to you and yours,
George
