This twin motor is listed on ebay.
Says "water-cooled, not sure what it came out of".

I would guess an auto engine ? Or maybe a boat engine ?
Not sure really. Can't say I have ever seen an engine quite like this one.

Any ideas on what this motor is, and what it was used for ?

Edit:
I suspect it is a marine engine, since it seems to have a water pump slung under one side, which would be pretty typical of a marine engine.

The advertisement says "Humber Motorcycle Engine".

This page talks about a Humber motorcycle engine that was water-cooled, and it looks a lot like the engine in the first post.

I think it is indeed a Humber motorcycle engine.

Edit:
On second thought, I think it is a Humber adapted for marine use, since there is a splined shaft out the back, which would not work for a motorcycle if the cylinders were fore-aft.
