I was having trouble with the transistor ignition circuit with a hall sensor on my still-in-progress Kerzel Engine. After 5 or more good ignition sparks, the circuit shut down. If I shut off the power to the board, then turned it back on, the same thing would happen. After switching parts without success, I sent an email to the folks that I bought the ignition system from, Allen Howell of J.E. Howell Model Engine Plans (www.model-engine-plans.com/)
Allen got back to me within 24 hours and diagnosed the problem. My coil was too close to the circuit board, and electromagnetic energy from the coil was interfering with ignition circuit. I moved the circuit board about 5 inches away from the coil and that solved the problem. I'm not up and running yet, but I know I have a solid and properly timed ignition system anyway. I think the fuel system is okay, maybe not enough compression? I'm going to check the valves and see if they are leaking. Stay Tuned.
