In an earlier thread, I discussed a tooling plate that I made to mount in my mill vise...

but didn't show the plate in use.

Here's an example of its utility. For the steam roller I needed to cut down a piece of 1/8" steel some 7+ inches long. It would have been a colossal annoyance to have to remove the vise, mount and cut the part, then remount and tram the vise.

I mounted the tooling plate and aligned the required cut with one of the T-slots in the plate. Using a 1/8" endmill, the power feed made quick, and very neat, work of the required cut - much better than I could have done by hand on the H/V bandsaw.

thank you Marv for sharing your idea

this is one of the most common problems that I encounter (eg. cutting a plate) and to avoid to remove and retrim the vise I often adopt wicked solutions :big:

a tooling plate is what I need for sure: at top of my to do list!

I actually mount the sheet to be cut directly on the table, but to the right of the vise, which is roughly in the middle.Of course, this only works up to a certain length of cut.
I too find this much more convenient than the bandsaw.Besides, the last time i tried cutting some sheet on the saw,I broke the blade .The supposed vertical use of your average 7x10 bandsaw is not to be recommended.
