this is a post directed to all members,ad ministaters and mostly to rick ........ the man who started this site.

i have been involved in some on-line forums and they started out ok but it always got political,derogatory or racist.
when they got that way i would just pick up my junk and move on, i have also been involved i clubs.
most of the people where tire kickers or real b.s slingers (don't have time for that) and if you didn't fit in to there preformed klicks you were just there by yourself.
if you didn't have tons of money or the best of equipment you were an outcast. in nearly 30 years of doing this model work and full size restoration of gas engines i have never had really good equipment or engines to work on. in those 30 years i have relied on friends and family to help me were i didn't know what i was doing. i would borrow parts and equipment to make something. in return i would help them were ever i could.
when i signed on to this forum, or should i say the day rick let me into this forum, all my preconceived ideas of how this would workout were changed. this site has unbelievable people with such a vast amount of knowledge it just boggles the mind.
i have seen no derogatorily replies, no politics and certainly nothing racist.

what i have seen in the last few days/weeks is a very eager and very smart young man asking questions and getting all the support he could ask for, without any negative or belittling comments. yes he might be sick of hearing all the comments about being safe but that's ok because WE ALL NEED TO BE REMINDED ABOUT SAFTY, and we all care about each other.

so now that i have rambled on i just want to say to everyone thanks a million and you should all give yourself a pat on the back for doing such a good job.

I second that, it is the members that make the site, we dont want to have to do any moderation, delete post of tell people to cool it.

I want this forum to be everytrhing the others are not. Im willong to do the tech work to see it happen. I have added as much as the bells and whistel I can but if the gang says "we want video chat" I would find a way to do it.

Ayup, you can say that again.

When I signed on as a moderator I did it with some trepidation. My cynicism was well honed by my experiences on some other, not-to-be-named, boards and I expected to be spending a good bit of time sorting out posts to the wrong subforum, deleting offensive posts and chastising transgressors.

I'm really happy to say that I've had to do virtually none of that stuff and can spend my time enjoying the forum, contributing when I can, and chuckling over the banter.

The fact that I can do that is because we have managed to attract some very sensible and intelligent members who are more interested in the hobby than in ego trips and ranting.

Everybody is very helpful and eager to assist newcomers which is really rare and most satisfying.

It's too early for martinis so I raise my cup of Earl Grey in salute of our most valuable asset - our members!

Soon as I finish vacuuming up the mound of swarf around the mill, I'm gonna crack open the bottle of Svedka a friend dropped off Fri. night. I made him a custom axle to mount pneumatic tires onto his Coleman travelling cooler. It was supposed to be a freebie but he insisted on surprising & delighting me. The bottles's in the freezer; now where did I put those olives...

i too thank you ALL for a great place where i-we can come and get help with our projects without the hubba. i know there are better machinist than i-we but we too need to learn somewhere & although our stuff is not as elaborate as yours is. we are proud that we made something that works.
i for one am very thankfull that there is a place to go and be welcomed.

There are no better machinists than the person working on the project.

There may be older more experienced people who's work ends up being a little
prettier than a less experienced machinist. That's great to see, but it's not the
defining term of a machinist.

A machinist is a person who makes every part to the very best of their ability.
If they see a way to improve it they do it!
Their never happy with what they've done until their sure they've given
it their very best effort.

It's not a competition with the guy next door.
It's a personal challenge to do the best you can, learn from mistakes and
do it even better the next time...

The grading scale is in our own heads!
No one to answer to but ourselves for the quality of our current capabilities.
