I am building a Howell V Twin and it has a tapered bushing in the flywheel. I got the bushing too tight by foolishly rotating the engine using the lock nut and could not get the flywheel off. The flywheel is against the bearing in the housing so it will not go back to release the taper and there is no way to make the bushing come forward since it is flush with the face of the flywheel. When tapered bushings are used in sprockets etc there are set screws release the bushing. Others have not had this problem in any of the online photos I have looked at. Short of a redesign of the bushing and/or flywheel what am I missing?

Figured it out. Now I feel dumb. I think that I have mounted the flywheel the wrong direction. Without the fans sheave there is no way to tighten the nut but for assembly purposes I do not need the fan so I though that the tapered bushing had to face outward.
