I seem to be the odd person who does not know what tangential tooling is. I have been around machines for a long time and I have never heard the term until a couple of recent discussions. I assume that it means a fixed replaceable cutter which has a built in rake on the cutter. It seems to refer to either a diamond or a carbide cutter. It seems to be something like would be used in a quick change tool post or a fixed holder. What am I missing?

Seems like You have the basics covered. Very easy to sharpen, I made one for a previous lathe and need to make another one, the old one does not fit the new lathe. I have also made a tool bit that uses a carbide tool bit to use for abrasive plastics. Pictures should be here in another thread.

Thanks Alan. I guess that I will have to leave my cave and take a look at that. I have never heard about that before. I have been using a QCTP and I have several extra holders which has worked well but I am always open to other options.

I absolutely love the diamond tool-holder. Bought two so far. You can buy directly from the inventor in Australia cheaper than in the US.

I finally got around to making a tangential toll holder for my QCTP. I have not used it much but it seems to work. Time will tell.

I have three diamond tool holders. I have one of these that is a lot smaller in size and find it wonderful for the very fine jobs. Also have their left and right tool holders. They are my main use tools Norm
