About a month ago I scored a Benchmaster mill for 200.00. It included an original Benchmaster stand, Armstrong t-bolts, two 3/8 collets (Hardige and Royal), an extra X axis screw with handle, a few slitting saws, a couple of shell mills and a brand new Dayton 1/2 hp motor. It also has an original light powerd off of a transformer, an Alan Bradley F/R switch, and an Alan Bradley on/off switch. The only the wrong with it is the bearings needed replacement. I am in the process of taking care if that now.
So, I know I did really well with this purchase. I can't complain one bit. I am tickled to death with it. Now onto the topic of this post.
A day or two after I purchased the mill a Rivett lathe showed up on Craigs List. The lathe included a collet set and tooling for 300.00. It looked old from the pics and I ignored it not knowing what a Rivett was. After it continued to show up on CL for a day or two I checked the Lathe info site in the UK and found out that a Rivett is a serious machine. I had spent all of my hobby money to get the Benchmaster and knew that asking my for 300.00 would go over like a fart in church right now.
I think the Rivett still showed on CL for another day when I started to consider asking family members for a loan while lying in bed one night. The next morning I got up and checked CL and it was no longer listed. Then on a whim, I checked E-bay and saw that they go for 2000.00 to 4000.00+.
But wait it gets better.... Tonight on E-bay I swear that particular Rivett is up for a reserve of $7500.00. Geographically it adds and the pictures and description are too coincidental.
Oh well; win some and lose some BIG.
