its very easy to make a generator, not so easy to make one small but powerful!

i wound the stator on my motorcycle (xr100). it had an empty stator with 5 extra poles not used. wound it with alternating wire directions on each pole and it lights a 150w headlight at idle. it is very simple with permanent magnets inside the flywheel, so it makes up to about 50v ac when revved out. i installed a shunting regulator which basically eats the extra power, so when it is at high rpm, and you have no load, the regulator has to turn all the electricity into heat in order to keep it at around 12v. interesting system. when my headlight burns out the regulator starts getting real hot. barely rises in temp when the headlight is going.
