Greetings All,

I tried searching. But, I didn't find anything definitive.

I'm going to start doing some silver soldering. After pickling the parts I need to rinse them off. We have a water softening system in our house. Is it OK to use the tap water to rinse off the parts? I'm concerned about the salt that is used in the softener. I'm using distilled water in the pickling solution. But, I'd rather not have to keep getting distilled water to rinse off parts also.

Thanks,
Todd

The water rinsing solution after brazing is not important. Any water is suitable. You are just rinsing off the acid pickle solution. Besides, a pickled brazed surface will generally see further cleaning a few more times prior to final finish, polish, or paint. I also don't think soft water would adversely affect your pickle solution. I use a standard softened tap water rinse prior to electroless nickle plating where a clean surface is much more critical than in your example.
