Hello all,

I'm in the process of building the 1/4 scale Galloway sold by Ministeam. Does anyone remember if the top of the piston travels beyond the end of the CI cylinder sleeve? I have created a concentricity issue while boring the cylinder casting (all my fault of course). The bore for the cylinder liner isn't concentric with the bore the cylinder head fits into (Only off by .010, but enough to notice). I don't think this would be a problem if the piston travel doesn't exceed the front of the cylinder liner, but I'm worried.

Apologies in advance... I've never been very good at phrasing my questions clearly. I hope I have haven't confused anyone overmuch.

Regards,
Jeff

Funny enough I just did the calculations for my 1/3rd scale one at the weekend and by my reconning the top of the piston comes just short of the igniter hole by 1/16" so yes the piston does come past the joint.

How did you get the error? I'm doing as the drawing suggests and boring the liner 0.100" undersize, pressing into place and then taking the whole thing out to finished size.

I should think you could do similar and go a little over bore as the liner is quite thick.

I've built the quarter scale Galloway and recall, that as designed, the piston does come past the end of the liner. To avoid this concern and to avoid the stepped bore in the cylinder block, I extended the liner all the way through the block. I didn't use the liner casting supplied in the kit, but used a piece of continuous cast iron bar.

Regards,

Chuck
