On one of my videos someone had built a oil burner and tried to melt cast iron and failed. He gave the link to a video which showed a oil burner build which he had copied. This is the type that has a precombustion chamber and is popular on youtube. When used properly it should melt cast iron quickly and get hot metal to pour. Of course he does not give any info about why he cannot melt cast iron so I cannot help him. So what I wanted to say is I do not use a precombution chamber and get hot iron every time. The problem with them is that they get very hot and will degrade very quickly from the heat plus they are not insulated, so they are losing a lot of heat to the surrounding atmosphere.
