Posting Images

Hi , hope someone can help me here

I tried to post an image last night without success. Never used to be a problem so can anyone tell me if things are now different.

I copied the URL of the image into the box that comes up after selecting 'insert image' but all that would come up on the post is a blank square with a red cross in it.

The image is stored on Picasa and is open to view

Having posted many pics on here what's happened/changed?

This is the result of pasting the URL of an image previously posted on here in the Super Tigre thread.

Somethings changed as instead of getting the [img] brackets I now get a 'insert URL here' box but I'm dammed if I can see why it won't post.

Doesn't look good for future posting at this stage :(

You should be able to post the url for an image as follows. Note that I have left off the initial and final brackets, [ and ], so that it does not permute. I have also left intact as a test.

Thanks for the response guys but niether works I'm afraid

Just tried both methods - and double checked them - and all I get on preview is that little white square when posting the URL or just the text if using your suggestion Thayer.

Could it be something to do with the new arrangements on here coupled with my computer set up? as I easilly posted images on the Model Engine Maker site today - but they have the

Just to be certain that I'm on the right track this is what I have been doing.. (certainly worked in the past on here (with the '' method :confused:)

Start post
Open web album and select image
Right click -open properties
Select URL - Copy URL
Return to post and open Insert image
Insert URL into bar in box - tried both with the existing 'http' highlighted and deleting it
Result -that damn white square

Hi Ramon,

I understand your frustration... I am sure that it is just a matter of how you are copying and pasting the url because I used the URL you used when trying to post an image and it didn't work.

My review of your URL showed that the : was missing after the https. I simply fixed that and posted just as you said...

Start post
Open web album and select image
Right click -open properties
Select URL - Copy URL

Return to post and select the Insert image button.
Insert URL pop-up appears
"http://" is highlighted in the box, waiting for you to fill out the rest of the URL.

Do not delete "http://"... just overwrite it by right clicking over the highlighted text and select paste.

Sloppy work highlighting, pasting, inserting or editing the URL into the pop-up or post frequently leads to typos or spaces in the url which cause the link to fail.

In your first case I know it was a matter of incorrect URL address. Select edit on your original post and view this to confirm.

Further explanation on how I got to your image...

I went to your original post, and right clicked on the broken link image... and selected copy URL. It copied the URL that you used in your post which was this

Looking at your code (by copying into my own post free form I was able to see that your HTML code used incorrect syntax due to the way the url was pasted into the pop-up box...

The correct URL is this:

Which yields the image below.

Thanks Toronto I can see it now. What hadn't registered is that if you right click in the bar to the right of the highlighted 'https' it de-selects it and the URL fills the space making it disaappear.

I had to have a few more goes before I finally got it but yes it does work

I hope you don't mind a sidebar question. I'm just checking into different web photo services & Picasa is on my list to look into. I need to get up to speed on Adobe Lightroom (my purchased, but not-used-so-much-thus-far organizer/editor program). Apparently LR has plugins to easily tag pics from your library & button click upload/export to Picasa (among othe services). So thats cool.

-when you say 'open to view', do you mean you could provide your friends a link so they could see your specific folders of pics? Can you control what you want private & public?

- re uploading pics to forums like this, the idea is you paste the full URL link in the post & that then pastes in the picture?

- then if you delete the pic from Picasa, the link is broken & no more picture in post?

Petertha - I'm not very computer savvy at the best of times - get something to work and that's it until 'they' improve matters and make it worse whoever 'they' may apply too. Certainly did with Picasa I used to load pictures to My pictures album and at one time they would automatically load to the Picasa Album. Now it doesn't - somehow I have managed to get them uploaded from My Pics to the album but so far I haven't yet figured out exactly how that's happening.!!

You are quite correct - If the Picasa web album goes down then so does all the images on the various forums.

On the Barton Control Line site you can load photos into a personal album but it puts them in in a random manner - makes for a high degree of frustration as you try to find a specific pic - tthis Picas might not be ideal but it does seem to suit my computer skill level - which is LOW

I just wish I had the brain poweer to deal with it all

Just to let you know, there is a way to upload images directly to this site without using picasa. That way it doesn't matter if picasa goes down or if you have trouble understanding their interface or complex sharing rules etc...

The only downside is that the images are not inline with the text but rather are attached to the end of the post.

Write your post, then before selecting the "submit reply" button scroll down the page to where it says additional options... attach files. Select the "manage attachments" button.

Pop-up window opens.

Select the "choose file" button which opens the "locate files" navigation window for your hard drive. Navigate to the folder on your hard drive where the desired image is located. Double click the file to select the image.

Selecting the file only adds the file to a list of files to be processed once the upload button is selected. It will not be uploaded unless the upload button is selected when you are ready to upload.

Repeat the "choose file" process to attach additional image if so desired. When done selecting images hit the upload button.

Then finally hit submit reply and voila your done and image files are uploaded along with your message.

Sorry this is off topic and I will move it to another thread later is need be...

So no special anodizing dyes, just red ink. I haven't looked at the cost of dye lately but I suspect red ink is cheaper...

Did you use a hard anodizing solution/set-up or one designed strictly to dye the part?
