This might have been around before. What i have been using for parting bits is taking old carbide tip saw blades and cutting them into 11/16 in. strips to fit my holder. I use them for parting as well as other special needs the other day i ground one for cutting fine metric threads. This is what i used to machine the crankshaft for my holt, can't beet the price. I used my band saw to cut the saw blade. Give it a try. Thanks Don

Are you talking about like 10" saw blades for wood? Great idea if that is it.

Yes 10 in. blades is what i have used, they will give you 1/8 in. wide parting tools but they do make thinner blades and they might work better in some cases. Don

I've also done this for parting tools. A 7 1/4" carbide tipped blade usually has thinner carbide and will give you a thinner carbide tip. You can cut the steel blade with a metal cutting jig saw blade or your metal cutting bandsaw.
The downside is that the carbide chips pretty easily so you gotta take your parting cuts kind of slow.

Chuck
