Looks like a simple electric motor to me.... David are you a retired science teacher or what? :big:

magnet, battery tin foil and copper wire.... All I need is the diagram hint, hint ;D

I could figure it out from the vid' but to be honest I'm tired!

Go on, give us a schematic ;D

Ralph.

Actually I think I've got it, just watched it full screen ;D.... still full explanation of the forces at work on my desk in the morning!!! :big:

lol,

It's called a homopolar motor, it works in a similar way to an ordinary DC electric motor i.e current flowing through a wire in a magnetic field (I used a magnet from an old hard drive) exerts a force perpendicular to the lines of magnetic flux etc etc...

I used to make these when I was a kid and my kids love them now. There's a good "instructable" which shows how easy they are to make http://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Homopolar-Electric-Motor/

David

Cheers David, That's just how I envisioned it..... It's been a while since I had to backwork something electric and funkie ;D

Oh by the way.... how good is that picture at the top of the screen?!?!?!?! ;)
