And here is what happens when you are not careful around the "nasty brown stuff" aka wood or more specific plywood.

When I was building the new bench for the lathe I got careless with a piece of plywood and ran a rather large splinter deeply into my finger. The splinter had to be surgically removed. So it is not just swarf you have to be careful of too.

One thing I wasn't happy about, besides the finger, was, when I oiled the spindle bearings thru the oilers a lot of black gritty oil came out. I kept pumping oil in until it ran clear clean oil. Followed the run in procedures in the well written Grizzly manual. They also sent a sheet showing where they checked the accuracy of the lathe at Grizzly.

I will do my own checks but was happy Grizzly did it too.

Can't wait to turn some thing but other family matters need to be taken care of first. :'( :'( :'( :'(

I unloaded and un-boxed and set my new toy up on Tuesday I lucked out and the plywood didn't get a chance to bite me I was lucky ;)
Nice tourniquet :big: I know I know it not funny! I do know how those splinters feel an it isn't fun.

Ron,
I ran down to my shop to see if my lathe was still there. :big: Your machine looks exactly like mine. She needs a little tweeking as they all do but I love it. Congrat's on your new baby. Plywood is a son of a gun. Get well soon!

My Baby
QCTP DRO (mans best friend) and notice the handle on the tail stock bed lock (McMaster Carr with a little mod) no more wrenching to lock the tail stock, it's a beautiful thing!

Hey Ron nice lathe I know where you can drop that off at and I would take real good care of it for you and it isn't that far away. That finger might get in the way hope it gets better soon. I'll try to get over and check it out in a few days. Cliff

Early Chirstmas for us all, nice lathes, not so nice finger, been that done that, it gives us a chance to sit in the shop while it is throbbing and admire what we just bought and how we will set it up, I got this at Harbor Freight, 50% off the $ 489.00, got it on the bench with a mashed finger, my wife came in the shop wanted to know where that came from pointed at the Zay 7032 large mill that I got from Harbor Freight told her it had a Baby, blank stare, those are not good, I told here I would change the diapers and get up with it in the middle of the night, but she is cool about tools, Lathe Nut
