Hi Guys ,
Well the lathe is all cleaned and adjusted and slinging chips ;D ;D turning my attention to cleaning the mill I encountered an unusual situation , when I rotate the speed knob all the way to the left until it "clicks" this is supposed to shut it off , now with it in this position I lift the red cap over the main switch and when I raise the cap the machine starts this does not seem right , as my lathe does not do this ??? any ideas on this ?
thanx smitty

I went out to mine and after it is shut off and the red cap lowered it WILL NOT start with the speed control in the off position. In fact the control board will not start the motor again unless the speed control is in the off position and then turned up. If you turn the speed up part way and lift the read button it does not start.

Sounds like something in your control board is not quite right.

When you lift the red button and it starts what speed is it going? Can you then turn the speed control up?

Sounds like the switch section has gone west...Mine went that way...

I modded my setup, retained the big red button but added a push to make switch in place of one of the indicator lamps...

To start the mill, I reset the red button..( pressing the green go button) then press the new ptm switch and adjust speed to suit...Works for me and cheaper than a new pot/switch (which would only break again in the future)

speed control works just fine ,maybe I will do the switch mod, right now the lathe just did a strange thing, was doing a light turn and it just stopped. reset the speed control no dice checke the fuse ,fuse good hmm I have not been doing anything extreme to cause an overload so it looks like I will have to put the test meter to work

Definitely time to work on the board. Sounds like new MOSFETs are in order.

Well monday and murphy (sod) all ganged up on me :big: :big: ::)It seems the only problem with the lathe was that the operator was not watching the position of the chuck safety shield switch , I do not use this shield but have not by passed the switch as yet, :big: :big: soon as I reset that it was back to turning ain't relearnin fun ?

sometime need to keep the operator head space adjusting tool handy
