Mill Motor Problem

The motor on my mill is making odd noises .It is 3 ph being run by a ph converter .It sounds like it is running with a miss in it .If that makes any sense . Any help will be greatly appreciated .Thanks Dale

Sounds like the ph converter is shot. Have you got another motor you can hook it up to and isolate the problem ?

Hi Dale,

If you can remove the belt and rotate the motor shaft by hand you will be able to feel if the bearings are shot. Also running the motor without the belt should confirm if it is the motor making the noise. Should this be the case they are not overly difficult to replace.

Is it a static converter? If so it sounds like the contactor isn't dropping the starting capacitors out. (Details of fault finding one here:http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,2727.msg46156.html#msg46156)

How hot did the motor get/is it getting?

Hi Guys I took the Converter apart and it has a bad capacitor in it .New one is on the way .Thanks to all for the help.
