Has anyone built the Mike Pileski vertical engine ? The plans in the Steam & Stirling book # 3 has some details missing that I would like to find before I decide to build this engine.

Thanks in advance !
Brian

Hi Brian:

I'm a little puzzled as to what details are missing from the Pileski engine. Could you email at neil at livesteam dot net with the info? I'll see what I can find out.

Thanks!
Neil

Brian:

I checked our archive S&S3 and did find a note to the effect that the piston drawing is missing. There also is a note that the valve stem thread is mislabeled. These items are to be resolved for the next reprint of the book (not sure when that will be). Anyway, thank you for bringing the error to my attention.

Hello,

I'm working on the engine now and will be doing a " work in progress ". Do we have the corrections available from the author ?? Making me a little nervous with the amount of work already done. Hope this engine runs.

I'm not sure of the author's status at this time, but will check him out with the circulation department. I'll let you know what I've discovered.

Regarding a piston for your engine, since you're planning to run on air, the requirements are a little less than that for running on steam. The piston only needs to be several thousandths under the cylinder bore. An oil film will fill the rest. You can use a ring of acetal or an O-ring if you so desire. The bore will need to be really smooth to keep from tearing up the softer ring material.

Neil, Thanks for the reply !

I need thickness and attachment details to the piston rod. The od is no problem.
How he has the piston rod attached to the piston will determine rod length and position in cylinder. Not there yet on the build and have done a couple of layouts guessing what will work. Will save some work knowing more.

Thanks for the effort !!

Brian

Hi Neil,

I was able to come up with the piston rod combination over the weekend after getting far enough with the assembly to check everything. If you find out something maybe others on the forum could use the info.
I appreciate your efforts !

Glad to hear things are working out! Also, I want to let you know that I just got off of the phone talking with Mike about his engine. He has a piston drawing but needs to dig it out of his archives. He also offered to communicate with you directly through his email. It's 3261ford at gmail dot com. Obviously you'll have to use the correct symbols for "at" and "dot." Anyway, he's looking forward to hearing from you.

Made contact with Mike Pileski and he provided me with the drawing I needed.

Now Mike needs some help getting back onto the forum and I'm posting for him.
If the forum Administrator can help his e-mail is on Neil's last post to me.
Mike said he would like to start posting again, but can't get logged in. He said he is not getting any feed back from requests for help.

Hoping this can help him and return the favors from Neil and Mike for their help.

What problems is Mike Pileski having regards to logging in. His name does not appear on the members list so he might have to sign on as a new member. I'm happy to help if I can.

Hi Herbie,

Mike says his password no longer works or he is doing something else wrong.
Should I advise him to re-register as the best course of action ?

Thanks for the reply !!!:)

Brian

If his username is quite different from his actual name (like most of us I guess) then Herbie may not be able to find it. Maybe post or PM Herbie with his username and see if he can find it.

I think re registering would be the easiest way. If he cares to send me his username if different from his actual name I can look it up for him.

Hi Herbie,

Mike used his name for the forum, Mike Pileski. This is his e-mail.
3261ford at gmail dot com.

Thanks for the help !
Brian

Sent pm suggest reregister as no sign of him on our data base
