thanks tin. that's close to me. I have a friend in lodi. good Malaysian resturant there too. not sure I can justify a $2500 purchase but not sure I can resist either. lol...

At $2500, even as a parts machine seems expensive. What parts are still usable are generally not the ones that fail. Figure all the servos, boards, switches, actuaters are junk. So Shafts, gears, castings are good, The rust has a 5 month head start. If someone in the area buys it, I'd like to help with rebuild, but this is a parts only machine in my limited view.

this is one of those deals you do not know what you ar getting into until you get into it.
fresh water may or may not be a big deal. if the machine was powered on while wet probably lots of fried stuff.
on the other hand I have seen circuit boars thar were flooded and still work fine.

someone is getting an interesting project lathe.

as long as no one attempts to power it on till it is rebuilt and dried it may be good. but it looks like there are a couple bids already. there are 2 available but I'm not getting into a bidding war over a fixer upper with a lot of unknowns. running it may be worth 3-4 times as much but it cost all of that to get things running.

PC boards are washed as part of the manufacturing process. Getting it wet wont hurt anything on the board. Wet with power on may be a problem. If teh machine was in use it ought to be well oiled so its not likely rust did it much harm.

If I were near enough Id sure go look at it. But I dont have room for it anyway.

WOW went for over $5000. guess someone has high hopes of a relatively easy restoration. I am sure it is a worth a lot more in running condition but could need lots of parts and time to clean it up.
Tin

yes and no. you can find machines at auction for that in working condition. but they frequently go for much more from dealers and on eBay. depends on the exposure and if the seller is holding out for a better price. sales from closing shops or getting rid of obsolete machines often have good deals. I've seen stuff pop up on craigslist cheap before but I never had the space till now.

I don't know how many of you guys have dealt with flooded stuff. This is Lodi NJ, the river goes right through town, and floods often, everything will be filled with the nicest fine mud you've ever seen, it feels like real fine lapping compound. It sticks and stains everything, its not wash, rinse, reuse, it takes effort to remove it, no flushing does much. This is a interesting project for someone.
