I had a couple of hours to kill this afternoon, so I went to a local, somewhat modest Half Price Books store here in Cedar Park, Tx. I went in expecting to find the usual collection of National Geographic magazines, western novels, and other castoffs that people couldn't quite bring themselves to throw away.

I came across the section tagged as Hobbies and Handicrafts and there, tucked away among the hundreds of quilting, scrapbooking, and origami books, I found these three gems...

Chuck is building/has built the marine engine and the boiler is underway. Could there be a change from vehicle to boat, or even use it as dual purpose plant?

Chuck,
Good find..

I have the Model Marine Steam book by Stan Bray too...Not a bad read although some of the engines described have parts missing from the plans...Fortunately I have the missing info courtesy of my best friend...Let me know if you want a copy of them and I an email them to you...

Still planning/working on the steam trike. However, I do have enough boiler materials and may do a boat next.

I've also obtained the two boat books from HPB. I think they somehow scored a stash of them as remainders and distributed them to the stores.

Every so often they have model engineering books at Half Price-- I've picked up a few Machinery's Handbooks there (once they realize they need to knock a decimal place off the original price) and some others over the years, but then I go someplace like Powells in Portland and am blown away by the selection. :(

It's worth a troll through the science and engineering section, toys and trains/boats sections as well as the old and rare books every so often as well. Sometimes they put things in weird spots. I found a LBSC book in the 'bargain nostalgia' section once. ???
