lol, the down side:
having to spend $$ on taps and dies for 3-48, 5-40 and the like.
(let me guess - the kit maker sells these )

the upside:
can fix (maybe) or make (maybe) those holes and screws in my rifles. lol.
 
Well speedy do not be dismayed as much as I have tryed to stay away from those sizes they are actually common model sizes and when the kits are built you have the taps and dies to tackle some elmers engines. just part of the hobby.

Its just another way to justify more tooling :) and in this case, I am going for some good taps and dies.
 
Far easier to put a 5-40 thread onto a bit of standard 1/8" rod than have to turn something to suit 6 or 4

I was wondering about how the 3 and 5 sizes worked on "standard" diameter rods. Had not looked into though. just tons of things to learn :)
