Hi all:
I'm new here . I'm a former machinist now a truck driver. I live in Reading Pa. I have a bridgeport mill and now looking for a lathe. I would like to build a model hit & miss engine. Several years ago I got involved in the The Hay Creek Historical Society in Geigertown and I just like the hit & miss engine. Now I would like to build one.
Any body in the area that could give me leads on clubs and parts etc would be helpfull.
Looking forward to reading all the post here.

Take care!
Dave

Welcome aboard Dave. Cannot point you to any folks in Reading but just thought I'd say hi and welcome!

Welcome, Dave. Love those hit-and-missers myself. Can't help you with the Reading area, but if you have questions about parts or projects they can probably be answered here. Lots of knowledgeable folks ready to help.

Regards,
Rudy

Howdy Dave....welcome to the group!!

Glad you came aboard, this is truly a great group of men. Larry1

Welcome, not sure of clubs near reading. There used to be model engine shows at Leesport. That is where the Famed cabin Fever show started IIRC 13 years ago. The Iron fever summer show was there for a couple of years before it ended. If you join the Home shop machinist forum look for a guy with the handle of polskifran. His name is Frank he lives in hamburg and works in a shop in reading. Great guy he and his dad exhibit at cabin Fever. He is a professional machinist and has a well equipped home shop. He is usualy very busy though with work.
Not sure what you are looking for in parts.
Hamilton Dick Upshure designed a couple of model hit and miss engines for a small lathe. these plans require no castings although cast flywheels are a nice addition
http://hamiltonupshur.tripod.com/ look for the farm engine plans 4 variation IIRC $15 for the set a small 40 page booklet actually.
PM research now owns Red wing and sells there kits 1/3 scale air cooled and a 1/4 scale water cooled. $550 for the kit

if you attend a cabin fever show in york pa you will see several vendors seling H & M model kits.
if you attend the threshermens reunion at http://www.roughandtumble.org/ you can photograph lots of the full scale stuff of steam and H & M and talk to a few folks in the model shed. There is a guy there that sells the upshure plans as well.
