The screwed fixture shown previously works very well in most cases. The key is to drill the end holes to fit the screws, not to the final dimension. if the holes are any larger than the screw diameter the machining forces will shift the work and the holes will not end up centered in the profile. Guess how I found that out.
 
Thanks JDLaCloss for the explanation. I have also used that scheme, and I am interested to see you were using 4-40 bolts. On one job I tried that size I didnt get them tight enough and the part shifted- I used slotted screws instead of allens.

I also managed once to program my first move right through the socket head. Little end mills dont cut allen heads very well:eek:
 
Haha! Ditto! Embarrassed to say how many bits I went through figuring out various parts of this. Learning by trial and error ( lots of error ) gets expensive.
