Gentlemen,
I am currently building a Hoglet engine.I’ve built plenty of single engines but never a twin.
I plan on using the Howell Tim- ignition kit that I’ve had great success with previously .
My question is do I need 2 coils and their drivers or will one suffice?
i would appreciate your learned opinion(s).
thanks in advance.

You need 2 coils 1 is a wasted spark . I use the Sage IGBT driver
available on this website. you do have to trigger the 2 cylinders
differently. So 1 driver 2 coils in series on the primary's 2 triggers
Hall with 2 magnets etc.
and the driver of your choice. Or dual output cdi available from CH?

I don't know if that is one that Roy at S/S is still doing. I have his Hoglet specific one which is dual coil, single hall sensor, two magnets but site looks like it may not contain some of the other parts, drop him an e-mail to check

Roy at S&S is still making an ignition system suitable for the Hoglet. Think he calls it wastefire. One module with a single input from a hall sensor and two outputs for the plugs.

I am using the Hoglet CDI unit put out by Roy at S/S. Easy follow instructions and produces a fat spark where needed.

Old guy called Doc, posts in here from time to time, used a dual arrangement (on his Hoglet) of the enclosed pdf file (original from way back when.)
I made up a pcb layout of just one circuit ( you'll need 2) as he doesn't always post too much detail.

Hi
I got my twin ignition from justengines.co.uk
My video includes some more information...

Cheers
Andrew

I have some circuit boards for a modified version of this ignition system if anybody wants one. I had to order a batch and I have more than I need.

Not sure why you would use it with points though, would be simpler to use coil and condenser (capacitor) I would have thought.

Thanks to everyone who were kind enough to reply and send their opinions on two cylinder ignition .Now I can make an informed decision.
I’ll send pics of the Hoglet when completed.

I am currently building the Hoglet engine and I don’t see how the large camshaft gear is attached to the cam. I don’t see a keyway or a retaining screw. Am I missing something here? Thanks for any help.
