Shipwreck enthusiast in Holland, MI planning on some model ship engine building in my retirement years.

(Not there yet but one can dream can't they.)

Machine Designer by trade with a small lathe and some background in clock making - ya gotta love brass!

Been lurking for years but hoping to get more serious about it soon.

Made a small steam engine with a thimble for a boiler back in the 1980's.

I chatted for a while with a guy who did panoramas for old ships, and I worked on a 3D model for one of the engines in that ship (The Naval boat Mississippi).

Its a fascinating hobby, and he digs up information on old boats from the 1880's by going to the Naval Museums, and requesting original drawings.
The he builds a cutaway panorama that is quite fascinating.

Attached is a screencap of the Mississippi engine.
The Mississippi was a sidewheeler, with sidebeam engines.
This model is being created from the original 1840's drawings from a museum somewhere in the US.

There is nothing quite like when they drop a camera down, such as with the Titanic, and an image of one of the engines emerges from the myst.









The Mississippi engine is much like the Pacific engine shown below.

Same guy I know is working on an engine and panarama for the Alva B, which is a tugboat from the late 1800's.
Went down I think in one of the Great lakes.
I believe they recovered the engine for this boat.
I did a little 3D modeling work on this engine.
Rather interesting valve mechanism on this engine.
