Hello...I stumbled on this site while shopping for a metal lathe. I was amazed at the stuff you all are building. I've mainly been making pens on a wood lathe and a few bowls and pepper grinders. Now I've ordered a Jet 9x20 and found this site while searching about lathes. I'd like to find a nice starter project that could be done with a lathe, drill press, and hand tools...I don't have a mill or cnc yet.

Welcome Gil,
You might check in the "Plans" section or the downloads sections for some plans and see if anything strikes your fancy. A simpler oscillating cylinder engine would be a good starter and possibly more lathe friendly as well.

Thanks...I did a search here for oscillating cylinder engine and landed on a thread mentioning a project from littlemachineshop.com so I went there and ordered a couple sets of plans with materials that should be good for me starting out. One of my early tasks is that I ordered a four bolt tool plate and a Phase II QCTP based on recommendations from others so I've got to try to do the mod to get the QCTP mounted.

Thanks,
Gil
