Hello. I have been secretly watching this forum and driving some of the work. I am new to the machining work and have to lathe. We plan on getting a mill at some point.

I am wondering if anyone can recommend a good project to do for beginners.

Look at some of the simple steam engines like the wobbles or the hosc engines. There are some plans free at metrodetroitmetalworkers.com.

A simple steam engine is a good place to start. A bunch of plans for Elmer's engines can be found at http://www.john-tom.com/html/ElmersEngines.html. The #25 wobbler is the simplest.
