Help with Enco Lathe?

I've evidently stripped the power feed gear in my Enco 2033 12x36 lathe, but I can't figure out how to disassemble the apron to replace it. I have the manual with a sketch of tbe internals but I just can't make heads nor tails of it. Can anyone help me get it apart?

Sorry to here about your lathe Terry. I have the same machine but regretfully no experience working inside the apron. It sounds to me this project will be like when we were kids, just start taking bolts out and you'll finally get there. LOL. Gary

Easiest to drop the apron to work on it, is it the gear that engages the feedshaft worm?

Drive out the pins at the gearbox end of the leadscrew and feedshaft, remove the tailstock end bracket, slide them out, and the fwd-reverse switch shaft - you can now unbolt the apron from the saddle, get a friend to hold it or put some blocks underneath to support it, once it's off it's reasonable to work on.

Thanks for your reply. I figured it out a few days ago, and the disassembly ended up being exactly as you described. Yes, the problem was the large brass helical gear that engages tbe power feed shaft. It was supposed to be protected by a shear pin; but the gear was badly damaged, and the shear survived without a scratch. I was able to make a reasonable replacement and I'm back up and running. - Terry
