Welcome, how about some information on what you are interested in, and do you have a workshop set up yet? You will pick up a lot of information from this forum, any questions that you have, don't be afraid to ask.

Yes please tell us a bit about yourself your shop and your interest in model engines. All ages and skill levels are welcome here but knowing a bit about you helps a brand new beginner and a retired tool maker with a full equipped shop will have different questions. And need different answers.

And a big g'day from Oz. Are you near Goathland ?

Hello All

Thank you for the interest. The workshop occupies a 12' x 8' space that was a garage in a past life! I have a 12 x 32 lathe and a mill/drill. Interests are quite varied, I have two half complete hot air engines, a 7 1/4" gauge Bridget to the Ken Swan design. I am currently making slow progress through a Hemmingways model Cygnet Royal; a radial 3 cylinder design. This model is "watch making" at some time I have to tap three holes 8BA in aluminium.

I have already had a browse through the archives and found a solution to the problem of shortening small screws. So, yes, a very useful resource.

Herbie, I am about two hours south of Goathland, that is in the North Yorkshire National Park. I have relatives nearby and once worked as a volunteer for the railway. This area is know as Heartbeat or James Herriot country because of the programs made in the area.

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,

You live in a nice part of the country.

We made it to Goathland on one trip to the UK - a bit disappointing since the locals seemed to want our money and custom without being friendly.

On a second visit with another friend, we didn't make it that far because we were stopped at a railway crossing by Nigel Gresley steaming past. The nearby pub had a sign in the parking lot saying that they would clamp any cars not belonging to customers so we had to have a beer (or two) and to inspect all the locomotives and the models and have a beer or two and we didn't actually get to Goathland.

But we did have a good time and talked to some old blokes wearing filthy overalls covered in coal dust and oil and who had big grins on their faces. They seemed to be having a good time.

Jim
