Depending on where you are in New Hampshire you may want to check out the New England Model Engineering Society. Its a group of guys interested in mechanical things that meet once a month at the Charles River Museum of Industry in Waltham MA. see www.neme-s.org for a huge web site with full info and photos of lots of mechanical things.

Welcome Pipemaker. Lots of info here and lots of good help

Welcome from faraway Singapore.
Was in New Hampshire 21 years ago while on the way to Charlotte,N.C.. Nice city. Cannot recall which state.

Crown Cork. Metal Box ,Singapore was bought over by Crown Cork.
Worked with Metal Box for quite a while. They sponsored my part time studies for Engineering Diploma in the 1960s. Great Company but a bit conservative ran by British Expats. Was operating the can body maker which made a lot of noise.Gus has one half deaf ear. Also operated the Slitting Machine to cut can body blanks.

Gus,
Thanks for the welcome.
I work For the 12 oz. beverage div. We no longer make the three section steal can for beverage, we make the the two section aluminium at my plant.
I started out on the body maker line and moved to the millwright shop, as I was not a production kind of person. I know maintain all of the plants equipment. as well as make steam engines in my spare time.
Good to hear from a fellow can basher, especially from so far away.
Thanks again,
Pipemaker

Hi Pipemaker,
Was on the "Troyer and Fox" body-maker 1965---1968.The higher speed m/cs came later. The two piece aluminium after I left in the 80s/90s.

Luckily my bosses made a mistake sponsoring my part-time evening classes to get my engineering diploma.
Upon graduation,I did ask my boss about my future. The reply was," Gus .You can't be spending your life bashing cans here.Time to venture out."

Ingersoll-Rand took in Gus ak Can Basher as engineering trainee. By the time they shut down the small air compressor plant in 2001 ,I was the Operations Manager. The golden handshake was substantial.

Gus now happily bashing out model engines----Steam and IC.Steam Engines are forgiving and IC Engines are very exacting and unforgiving.

Please enlighten me on Mill-Wright.
