i bought this off eBay :noidea: for the dial indicator didn't know the block was this big, any body have any ideal what its used for or if anyone needs it let me know

It looks like it was some type of gauge stand. Set the indicator to some known dimension then slide the pieces underneath to proof them.

i saw the V groove so my guess would be it sits on a surface plate so you can sit a small pin in the grove to measure it accurately maybe for tiny parts that have a radius on the ends that would be very hard to measure with a mic

It would be almost impossible to detect exactly what it was used for, maybe just a guesstimation.

These sorts of tools are used in industry and are usually made to do one specfic job. Designed by the engineer who is responsible for the job, and made in the factory workshop. I have made dozens like it in my time while working as a troubleshooter.

Just enjoy it for what you can get out of it in terms of materials.

Yep,used to use something like this for measuring the depth of hole on a bifurcated rivet,the small dia probe on the dti makes me think this,we used to make brass rivets for clutch plate linings on an American National cold heading machine.
That's my 2 pence anyway
