Fuel proof paint needed.

Hello, fairly new member here. I am building a model Associated engine and am seeking advise on paint and painting products. I intend to run Coleman fuel with added oil.

Looking for a paint or over-coating to resist peeling and staining.

I also seek advice on how to maintain the exposed metal parts.

This my first engine so please be gentle.

P.S. Anyone in the Nashville Tn. area, north part, that would like to share
interest.

Check places that sell R/C stuff. Fuel proof dope (paint) is common for that hobby.

Standard hardware store paints like Krylon hold up well with Coleman fuel. Model paints were designed to be used with glow engine fuels that contain methanol and nitromethane. These days there are no paints that are really fuel proof to high nitro fuel. Automobile clear coats withstand both fuel types.

Brownells Aluma-Hyde II is an epoxy resin based paint that withstands gasoline, brake cleaner, ethanol (maybe others, but I have not tested them). It is an air dry in aerosol or bulk liquid for your spray gun. Requires about 3 days cure time to be solvent proof.

I like to powder coat my engines. Nothing seams to affect it. Not hard to do or terribly expensive. You can get a kit form Eastwood for about $120.
